Last month I:
a) put my corporate out-of-office on
b) put my business in-office-mode on
c) and jumped on a plane.
I took some annual leave from my day job to focus on my side hustles and found only a few days in that I was struggling to get anything done. I was having writer’s block and I put part of this down to the fact that my ‘Banking home set up’ and my ‘Creative side hustle set up’ is the same. This environment was shaping the way I was thinking; still like an an institutionalised corporate and not as a creative. So I decided to do something a bit drastic and instead of just changing up my home office I decided to jump on a plane to creator-central-Bali.
What I learnt through doing this:
A change of scenery is juice for the creative mind. It doesn’t need to be jumping on a plane to a different time zone, but don’t underestimate the importance of changing your set up and getting some time with nature even if it’s just at your door step. Sometimes a change of environment is all it takes.
Don’t forget to sharpen the saw. I was working consistent 100+ hour weeks and was often so busy sawing that I forget to sharpen the saw. To be able to keep going you need to revitalise every now and then - this is now one of my favourite things to schedule into my calendar.
Don’t bother planning an extensive to-do list for the plane journey, none of it gets done anyway.
Until next week, Nischa out! Xx
My favourite things this week:
📗 Book: Given this is my first blog post, I want to dedicate everything I’ve achieved this year to my beloved law-of-attraction planner. It is single-handedly the best thing I bought in Dec 2021. I spent that month auditing my life (the first few pages makes you dissect your current life), and then put all my plans into action throughout the year with the help of quarterly reflections.
📲Tech: All in one external USB C Hub. After wiping my tears at the fact the new mac book pro 13 doesn’t have a SIM card port and potentially having to upsize to the heavier 14-inch I found the perfect solution (call me late to the game).
🛍 Article: Going abroad and taking some time out really puts everything into perspective. You know what else puts things into perspective? This article on the time we have left with our loved ones and what we can do to make the most of it.
🎙Favourite post or podcast: Steven Bartlett interview with Marcus Buckingham on what you should do if you don’t like your job. These 12 minutes summarise what it took me years to learn.
Hi Nischa, we need your help with a financial project. You will get a big commission. Even if you involve another banker, it will be fine. Please contact me reneewinfield@myyahoo.com thanks Renee
Hi Nischa, this piece of work is enlightening and an eye opener for me. Being in my mid 20s, I've been looking for an upgrad financially by creating a 2nd stream of income to begin with and the insights in this newsletter are relatively informative.
Please do let me know if we can connect personally to discuss more. I request you to provide at least 10 minutes of time and help me in my journey to excel.
